“I don't like paintings near the cooking area, says Asun Antó. I usually put them away from the kitchen area, for example, in the office. In this project, Asun arranged a still life without a frame in the peninsula area.

“Pictures in the kitchen must always have glass for a cleaning issue —advises Chone de la Sotilla, from Deulonder Arquitectura Doméstica. “I would only do without glass if the paintings are located in the office, for example.”

“The best place to put pictures in the kitchen is in the office area, if there is one,” explains Pia Capdevila. “If not, I always advise looking for an area that is not very close to the fires or the cooking area.” waters so that the painting does not suffer from heat or humidity“.

And how about the number of paintings that have to be put in the kitchen? Is one large one better or several small ones? There are opinions for all tastes. Asun Antó prefers “to place two or three from the same collection or one large one, if the wall allows it.”

“It depends on the space,” Chone de la Sotilla, from Deulonder, intervenes. “I love small paintings but I wouldn't put them in the kitchen. I would put better one or two large paintings“. A trend that Pia Capdevila joins: “If I can, I prefer two large paintings to 4 small ones.”

“If there is wallpaper in the office, I love that the paintings are combined with it,” suggests Asun Antó. “Or that they harmonize with the color of the kitchen furniture, the paintings should be of the same tones or a little higher“.

In this office next to the kitchen, Asun Antó chose a couple of paintings from the same collection framed in light wood, matching the furniture.

“I would advise putting pictures with frame and always protected with glass for reasons of practicality in cleaning” —says Pia Capdevila. In this project of hers she placed a decorative painting on the shelf from which the peninsula emerges.

“I like the ones that have glass with a small frame,” says Chone de la Sotilla. made of natural oak or beech that look very pretty. Although it will depend on the style of the kitchen: if it is very minimalist, you can place a thin iron or black wood frame. And if the painting is in the office, not in the kitchen itself, then frameless canvases are ideal.”

More places to put pictures in your kitchen? Pia Capdevila suggests these: “If you have a shelf or a shelf, you can place two or three paintings on it creating a decorative set measuring approximately 40 x 30 cm. Or if they are displayed in a small corner, for example on a pillarI like how the composition of two vertical paintings looks.

In this project, Pia opted for an abstract painting in black and white, with glass and a wooden frame.

There are varied opinions here. Asun Antó loves to put food themes. “There are very fun ones with fruits, vegetables or fish and shrimp. I don't like to put landscapes in kitchens.” In this image project of his, he placed some original paintings of crustaceans, matching the motifs of the Coordonné wallpaper that decorate the office.

The botanical theme in paintings, a trend in recent years, also crept into the kitchen. Chone de la Sotilla is committed to taking a step forward and changing this look a little. “You have to think of the kitchen as if it were a living room. Just because it is a kitchen, you don't have to add botanical or kitchen themes. We can put a lithograph, family photos…“.

In this kitchen in the image, Chone opted for an abstract watercolor painting by Kristina del Baño, which gives category and personality to the space.

And what theme does Pia Capdevila opt for? For the interior designer both options are valid. You can bring abstract paintings to your kitchen that decorate themselves, or something more figurative related to the kitchen, such as plant images or kitchen utensils.

In this project, Pia has chosen to place a subtle painting by Valeria Sidañez on a shelf that represents silent luxury.

The interior designer Sylvia Preslar has chosen an endearing composition of family photos for this kitchen. in black and white. Glazed and in different sizes, the frames are made of natural wood or white lacquered. He has arranged them on the wall of the peninsula painted in an olive green.

Wall lights or spotlights? There are also different opinions here. “I don't particularly like wall lights in kitchens because the screens get dirty,” confesses Asun Antó. “I do put them in hallways or bathrooms. I prefer spotlights on the ceiling directed at the paintings or that the office lamp itself is in charge of illuminating the whole.

Instead, Jeanette Trensig chose, in this project, a pair of metallic appliqués to illuminate the fun canvas, with flour and an egg, that decorates the wall of the work surface.
